The founder and head of Meta (formerly Facebook) Mark Zuckerberg has said the social network will integrate non-fungible tokens (NFT) in the near future.
According to Zuckerberg, the NFT minting feature could be coming to Instagram as early as “in the coming months.” However, he has not given a roadmap for this, so it remains unknown when the feature will be added to the popular social network.
The head of the company has also announced users will be able to use NFTs as digital avatars in the future.
The Financial Times had earlier reported on Meta’s plans to integrate non-fungible tokens in Instagram and Facebook, as well as the development of an NFT marketplace.
Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri stated in December last year that the company was “actively looking into NFTs” but did not provide further details.
