US online trading platform eBay has launched a collection of non-fungible tokens in partnership with NFT platform OneOf.
eBay Vice President Dawn Block has said:
“NFT and blockchain technology are revolutionizing the collecting space and are increasingly seen as an investment opportunity for enthusiasts.”
The debut Genesis collection includes 3D and animated images of iconic athletes who have appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Canadian hockey player, four-time Stanley Cup winner Wayne Gretzky was chosen as the first NFT. He has said:
“Forty years ago I was grateful to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated, it was a significant moment in my life. I am honored to give a collectible experience to hockey fans who have followed my career for decades.”
DJ and producer Alesso and the US National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences have previously announced a partnership with OneOf.
