Trust Machines, founded by Blockstack blockchain startup founder Muneeb Ali and Princeton University computer science professor J.P. Singh, has announced the launch of their flagship Leather wallet, a Web3 project based on the network of the first cryptocurrency.
The initiative is focused on the creation of a bridge between the Bitcoin blockchain and second-layer solutions, and already supports much of the functionality of L2 networks such as Ordinals and the Lightning Network.
Leather has been integrated with the NFT marketplace Gamma, decentralized exchanges ALEX and Velar, as well as dapps Magic Eden, Rare Stamp, Ord.io, UniSat, On Chain Monkeys, and more.
The goal of the project is to make Bitcoin “simple and intuitive” for the billion users they hope to reach, while ensuring trust and security via decentralization.
Before the wallet’s rebrand from Hiro Wallet, it had over 375,000 installations and 100,000 monthly active users. Their efforts have been well-funded; in February 2022, the company raised $150 million.
