At the hearing on a $61 million cryptocurrency scam, professional soccer star Ronaldinho Gausha testified before the Brazilian Congress that he was not a partner of the company and his name and image were used without permission.
To back his claim, promotional materials featuring him were presented. Upon being asked if he intended to reimburse investors, Ronaldinho avoided answering the question.
The investigation, conducted by Brazil’s lower house and the Chamber of Deputies, was launched in June and targeted 11 suspect organizations.
Ronaldinho had failed to appear in prior hearings of the 18kRonaldinho case due to weather conditions and faced a fine had he not arrived this time.
It is noteworthy that other celebrities, such as NBA star Shaquille O’Neal, former basketball player Stephen Curry, NFL player Tom Brady, comedian Larry David, and Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka, likewise faced allegations of promoting a collapsed FTX.
