Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, recently had his X-account hacked due to SIM card swapping.
After this occurrence, Buterin spoke of the incident on the new social network, Warpcast. Buterin reported that the hacker was able to gain access to his T-mobile account by using social engineering, and with that, reset the password on the X-account.
This resulted in a phishing post and an estimated amount of damage of $691,000.
To prevent this in the future, Buterin advised the use of Warpcast, a decentralized social network, and its own unique seed phrase that cannot be reset by gaining control of a phone number. As of now, access to Warpcast is only available by invitation.
