Starting in November, Sam Altman’s Worldcoin retinal scanning devices will reward operators with the native WLD token, replacing the use of USDC.
This is part of the startup’s transition phase, as stated by Altman, with the intention of collaborating with independent participants in the ecosystem.
A pilot WLD payout program was launched in early October for select operators by the Worldcoin Foundation.
The OpenAI CEO had officially launched on July 24, with its main product being the World ID protocol, which uses zero-knowledge proofs for authentication using biometrics or phone numbers.
Users who pass the verification process through the Orb device will receive a reward of 25 WLD.
According to Dune dashboard, the total number of WLD tokens in circulation has increased from approximately 100 million to 134 million, making up 1.34% of the total 10 billion tokens issued.
