The team behind the popular dog-themed cryptocurrency, Shiba Inu, has applied for a new domain name extension, “.shib”, to be added to the internet’s domain name system (DNS).
This partnership between Shiba Inu and D3, a domain name firm specializing in next-generation domains, aims to bridge the gap between Web2 and Web3 domains.
While current Web3 names like “.crypto” and “.eth” are not compatible with widely used internet tools, traditional Web2 domains like “.com” and “.net” don’t work natively with Web3 tools.
If approved, Shiba Inu holders would be able to create email addresses with the “.shib” suffix, making it easier for them to interact with both Web2 and Web3 platforms.
