Based on data from Coingecko, only approximately 2% of El Salvadorans have invested part of their savings in Bitcoin.
Interestingly, despite the fact that El Salvador legalized BTC in 2021, Argentina is currently ahead in terms of adoption of the largest cryptocurrency.
A recent survey conducted by the Central American University revealed that the percentage of the population in El Salvador using Bitcoin as a form of payment has dropped to 12% in 2023.
The study involved 1,280 citizens from various social and age groups. In 2022, the usage of BTC for payments had reached 24.4%.
Of the participants, 49.7% stated that they had only used BTC a maximum of three times. The most common uses for cryptocurrency were in supermarkets and veterinary clinics.
In addition, the study found that the percentage of Salvadoran citizens who viewed the legalization of Bitcoin positively increased from 3% to 6.8% in 2023.
