OKX Closes its Mining Pool

Reading time: < 1 minute

From January 26, OKX crypto exchange no longer accepts new registrations for its mining pool and has shut down all affiliate services. Current members of the pool will still have access to it until February 25.

This decision was made by OKX due to business adjustments. The exchange’s pool previously supported mining of multiple cryptocurrencies, but has since narrowed to only Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Ethereum Classic.

However, their contribution to the Bitcoin network has significantly decreased since the exchange temporarily suspended withdrawals in October 2020 due to cooperation with the Chinese Ministry of Public Security in investigations.

The pool’s current hashrate is only 0.0001% of the Bitcoin network’s total hashrate. On January 24, 2024, the price of OKB token, the native token of OKX, experienced a sharp drop but has since recovered.

This was attributed to the liquidation of large positions with insufficient collateral.
