On Thursday, Kraken announced that it has obtained a virtual asset service provider (VASP) registration from the Dutch Central Bank (DNB), enabling the crypto exchange to offer its services in the Netherlands.
This comes after Kraken’s acquisition of Dutch crypto broker BCM last October, which the company stated would help strengthen its presence in the country.
Kraken highlighted the Netherlands’ vibrant startup and technology sector, strong financial services industry, and high fintech and crypto adoption rates as key factors in securing the license.
This is seen as a step towards Kraken’s overall expansion plans in Europe, where it has already obtained licenses in Spain, Italy, and Ireland.
