According to a new report from Chainalysis, the amount of illegal activities being carried out using cryptocurrencies has decreased since the start of the year.

At the same time, the number of legitimate transactions has reached a new high, similar to previous periods of high demand in 2021.

The report, titled 2024 Crypto Crime mid-year report, revealed that overall illicit activity is down by 19.6%, dropping from $20.9 billion to $16.7 billion.

However, the report also noted that two types of crypto crime, stolen funds and ransomware, have actually increased since January. Despite this, the report concludes that the global adoption of cryptocurrencies is still on the rise.
