Sony Group, in partnership with Startale, has announced the creation of Soneium, their first Ethereum Layer-2 blockchain project focusing on scalability and usability for mainstream adoption.
Soneium is set to launch Web3 applications in various industries such as entertainment, gaming, and finance, utilizing Sony’s extensive Web2 presence, as stated by Sony Block Solutions Labs.
Sota Watanabe, Founder of Astar Network and Director of Sony Block Solutions Labs, stated that Sony Group’s strong distribution channels and existing user base in our daily lives will be beneficial in bringing Soneium to mainstream adoption.
The joint venture is currently working on launching the blockchain‘s testnet, with the official launch date to be announced. Details on the platform’s technical tools and developer requirements will be released by Sony Block Solutions Labs in the following weeks.
