Nayib Bukele, the president of El Salvador and a strong supporter of Bitcoin, revealed that while his plan to establish the country as a hub for the world’s most popular and established cryptocurrency has brought about many positive outcomes, its adoption has not met his initial expectations.
In an interview with TIME Magazine, Bukele admitted that “Bitcoin hasn’t had the widespread adoption we hoped for.”
However, he also emphasized that the adoption of BTC has not had any negative consequences for the country. Contrary to the warnings of institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF), El Salvador has actually benefitted in various ways from its pro-Bitcoin stance.
Bukele states that Bitcoin has brought branding, investments, and tourism to the country. He firmly believes that the positive outcomes outweigh any minor issues that have been highlighted.
