The latest hacks in August have propelled the total amount stolen by cryptocurrency hackers to over $1.2 billion, raising concerns about the widespread adoption of crypto.
In the first eight months of 2024, the crypto industry has already seen 154 individual attacks, resulting in a total loss of $1.21 billion.
This represents a 15.5% increase compared to the same period in 2023, when losses totaled just over $1 billion, leading security firm Immunefi has reported.
As the numbers continue to rise, there is a growing concern that hackers may surpass the total amount stolen in 2023.
According to Mitchell Amador, the founder and CEO of Immunefi, it’s difficult to make predictions, but the risk of a significant and successful exploit is always present in the crypto ecosystem. He emphasized the need for constant vigilance to mitigate such risks.
