More than $313.86 million worth of cryptocurrency was stolen in over 10 different cyberattacks last month, raising concerns about the widespread acceptance of this digital asset class.
According to blockchain security company PeckShield, a vast majority of these attacks (93.5%) were carried out through phishing, resulting in a total loss of $293.4 million.
Two of the top five hacks targeted in August involved phishing attacks, resulting in the loss of $238 million in Bitcoin and $55.4 million worth of Dai.
Other notable incidents include the Ronin Network hack, which recovered $12 million from the hacker but saw unauthorized crypto transactions worth $5.1 million.
