Based on a report released on Monday by the FBI, crypto-related losses in the US have increased by 45% since 2022.

In 2023, the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center received over 69,000 complaints resulting in a total of $5.6 billion in losses, with cryptocurrency accounting for 10% of all financial fraud complaints and half of the total losses.

The most complaints were filed by individuals over the age of 60, with those in their 30s and 40s following closely behind.

The top reported crime was investment scams, and the agency states that the widespread promotion of cryptocurrency as an investment, coupled with the fear of missing out, has provided opportunities for criminals to target unsuspecting consumers.
