Cantor Fitzgerald’s CEO Howard Lutnick recently appeared on Fox Business on September 27 and advocated for Bitcoin to be classified as a commodity, similar to gold and oil.

During the interview on Mornings with Maria, Lutnick stated that it is well-established that Bitcoin is a commodity and called for better regulation of the cryptocurrency sphere:

“Bitcoin is a commodity. It should be treated like gold and oil. It’s simply a commodity.”

When asked if he believes that commodities and other items traded on Cantor Fitzgerald’s exchange will be subject to similar regulations as equities, Lutnick stated that he believes over a longer period of time, about 20 years, commodities and equities will merge.

The CEO highlighted his concern that regulators are not able to fully understand the importance of Bitcoin and the larger digital asset industry.
