The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced that cryptocurrencies will be one of its top priorities for examinations in 2025.

According to a recent press release, the regulatory agency is aiming to closely monitor activities involving cryptocurrencies and their related products, specifically spot trading of Bitcoin and Ethereum as well as exchange-traded products (ETPs).

The SEC stated that given the volatile nature and high activity within the crypto asset market, they will continue to keep a lookout and conduct examinations on registered entities that offer crypto asset-related services.

In addition, the SEC is seeking to assess how companies handle the risks associated with blockchain and distributed ledger technology, as well as the security risks associated with holding and trading cryptocurrency.
