The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has approved the trading of options linked to Ether (ETH) exchange-traded funds (ETFs).
On Wednesday, the SEC gave the go-ahead for Nasdaq ISE’s filing from last July to list options contracts on BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA). Options are a popular tool for leveraging and hedging risk, especially appealing to institutional investors aiming to control large share quantities.
The Commission had until today to decide. James Seyffart, an ETF analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence, stated that the approval was “100% expected.”
These options are specific to ETHA, making BlackRock’s product the only spot Ether ETF on which options can be traded.
