The CEO of crypto derivatives exchange BitMEX, Alexander Heptner, has stepped down from his position.
According to the email sent by the company to its clients:
“Stefan Lutz has been named Interim CEO of BitMEX following Alexander Heptner’s immediate exit from our business. Stefan will continue as Chief Financial Officer, in office from May 2021.”
Founded in 2014, BitMEX was one of the first to offer crypto-based derivatives to the market. Over time, the company ran into regulatory problems, one of the consequences of which was a change in leadership.
The former head of the Stuttgart stock exchange Alexander Heptner has headed BitMEX since the end of 2020.
In April 2021, the exchange unveiled an ambitious development plan to transform into one of the largest crypto derivatives platforms in the world. However, against the backdrop of a bear market, the company had to reduce the number of employees.
