Grayscale and VanEck Register for Spot Bitcoin ETF Shares

Amidst the pending decision from the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), investment firms Grayscale Investments and VanEck have submitted notices to the financial regulator indicating their intent to register shares of a Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) on stock exchanges.

The two companies filed separate Form 8-A submissions on Jan. 4 to register their ETF shares on the Cboe BZX Exchange and New York Stock Exchange Arca respectively.

This follows a similar registration from the Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund on Jan. 3. Several other applications for BTC investment vehicles are currently being reviewed by the SEC, with many anticipating a potential approval in the coming week.

Some speculate that the SEC may approve multiple ETF listings before the Jan. 10 deadline for a BTC ETF offering from ARK Invest and 21Shares. However, the Form 8-A filings do not guarantee approval from the SEC.
