Hester Peirce: The US Financial System Should Be Decentralized

Reading time: < 1 minute

Hester Peirce, known as “Crypto Mom” for her advocacy of the digital currency market, is a SEC Commissioner who believes in the decentralization of the American financial system.

In February 2021, she urged Congress and the White House to swiftly legalize the decentralized finance (DeFi) space.

She believes that digital currencies hold the key to a future financial revolution and can promote societal freedom. Recently, at the ETHDenver conference, Peirce reiterated her stance, emphasizing the need for the US financial system to gradually become decentralized in order to increase its security.

She strongly advocates for the legalization of mining pools, validators, non-custodial wallets, and blockchain software developers.

Peirce believes that the Securities and Exchange Commission’s rigid policies have hindered the growth of the industry in the US and it is crucial for regulators to change their approach and be more accommodating towards the blockchain industry.

According to Peirce, the important step is to move in the right direction and allow blockchain companies to develop and build infrastructure for the market.
