Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have seen considerable growth in 2024, but they have not yet attracted the attention of traditional banks and institutional investors.

VanEck CEO Jan van Eck has explained that most of the capital inflows into spot Bitcoin ETFs in the United States have come from retail investors.

He expressed surprise at the success of the ETFs, which have seen billions of dollars in inflows on certain days, but noted that these investments were not coming from traditional finance (TradFi) players.

Van Eck estimates that about 90% of the inflows are from retail investors, with only a small portion coming from Bitcoin whales and other institutions who were already exposed to Bitcoin.
