Multiple users on the popular crypto exchange Coinbase, as well as one user of a different cryptocurrency, last week reported falling victim to scammers impersonating Coinbase.
One victim shared that they lost $1.7 million after being tricked by a scammer who claimed to be from Coinbase’s security team.
The scammer requested part of the victim’s seed phrase and sent an email that appeared to be from Coinbase, verifying their identity.
They then claimed that the victim’s wallet was linked directly to the blockchain, resulting in unauthorized transactions. The victim received another email, also appearing to be from Coinbase, showing a transaction leaving their account.
