Gurbir Grewal, the current director of enforcement for the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), will be leaving his position at the agency on October 11.
In his place, Sanjay Wadhwa, the deputy director of enforcement, will take over as acting director.
Sam Waldon, the chief counsel for the enforcement division, will also take on the role of acting deputy director. In a press statement, SEC Chairman Gary Gensler praised Grewal for his three years of service at the agency, noting his dedication to protecting investors and enforcing securities laws.
Under Grewal’s leadership, the SEC authorized over 2,400 enforcement actions, resulting in more than $20 billion in disgorgement and civil penalties. Additionally, over $1 billion in awards were given to whistleblowers during his tenure.
