Google Will Require Crypto Advertisements to Register with FCA

Google has updated its policy, stating that all advertisements for digital asset exchanges and wallets in the United Kingdom must first register with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) before being allowed to run on the platform.

The new policy will take effect on January 15, 2025 and applies to all accounts promoting crypto exchange services, software wallets, hardware wallets for storing cryptocurrency private keys, and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

Advertisers must ensure compliance with local financial regulations and cannot offer ancillary services such as buying, selling, or trading digital assets.

While additional requirements were not specified for hardware wallet ads, all advertisers are expected to adhere to local laws in their targeted regions. Google emphasized that this policy will be applicable globally to all accounts promoting these financial products.
